Red Line 1, Coursebook

The boys look at each other. They are very scared now. “He must be … a Ghost Captain!” Paul and Jason run outside quickly. They want to go back to their class and Mrs Sanderson. They must stop the Ghost Captain. But they can’t see him. Suddenly, Paul says. “I don’t feel so good …” “What do you mean? How do you feel?” Paul’s face is a little green. “Er … seasick.” Jason runs to the window. “Oh no!” he says. “It looks like Greenwich is getting smaller …” “If I feel seasick and Greenwich is getting smaller,” says Paul, “It can mean only one thing …” “Oh no! The ship’s sailing!” they both shout. And they are right. It’s true. The old ship is sailing down the River Thames! Suddenly they see the Ghost Captain. “You can’t do this!” the boys say. “We’re telling Mrs Sanderson!” “Mrs Sanderson?” says the Ghost Captain. “There is no Mrs Sanderson here. There are no women on my ship!” He runs back to the ship’s wheel. Now they are sailing faster down the Thames. They can already see the Thames Barrier. “Ha ha, boys! China, here we come!” the Ghost Captain shouts to the wind. “But we need to find our way before we get out to sea!” Just then, the class comes up from the hold. They see the ship is sailing! “Wow, Mrs Sanderson!” they say. “This is a really cool surprise! A trip on the Cutty Sark! This is much better than the video!” But Mrs Sanderson does not think it is a cool surprise. She cannot understand what is happening. The Thames Barrier is now far behind them. London looks like a little town far away. The guide does not know what to do. “But – the Cutty Sark can’t sail!” she says again and again. “The anchor was down! I saw it with my own two eyes.” Mrs Sanderson calls the school on her mobile. “Headteacher? …Yes, it’s me, Mrs Sanderson … the school trip with class 7B, yes. …On the Cutty Sark, that’s right. …No, everything’s not OK … . I’m sorry … . I think we’re on our way to China! Help!” Lucy sees Paul and Jason. “What’s happening?” “It’s the Ghost Captain!” they tell her. “Who?” Lucy asks. “The ticket collector … a black cat … Blackjack … one ear … just like Captain Moodie’s … he thinks we’re his cabin boys! He’s lifted anchor!” Lucy looks at Paul and Jason. “What are you talking about?” she says. “I don’t understand a thing!” “Lucy, we have to stop the Ghost Captain,” says Paul. Lucy does not know what to think. “So where is this ‘Ghost Captain’ now?” she asks them. 155 160 165 170 175 180 185 190 195 200 205 210 215 220 one hundred and twenty-one 121 A story E Alle neuen Wörter findest du im Dictionary ganz hinten im Buch.
