Red Line 1, Coursebook

122 one hundred and twenty - two “We don’t know…” the boys tell her. “What can we do?” “Well”, says Lucy, “remember the guide said you can’t sail the ship without two things.” “The map to find your way!” Paul shouts “… and the telescope to find land!” says Jason. “Come on – back to the cabin! We must get them before he does!” Police boats are now on both sides of the old ship. “Stop now!” the police are shouting through a megaphone. “Police. Stop right now!” There is another boat full of reporters. They are taking pictures of class 7B on the Cutty Sark. There are TV cameras, too. The pupils on board the Cutty Sark are taking pictures of the police boats and waving at the TV cameras. Paul, Jason and Lucy run to the captain’s cabin. The door is closed. When they open it, they see the map of the way to China and the telescope are still on the desk. “Phew – they are still here!” says Paul. “Let’s take them so he can’t get them,” says Lucy. They take the telescope and the map and run out – straight into the guide and Mrs Sanderson. “Stop! Where are you going with the map and the telescope? They’re stealing the ship’s things!” says the guide. The police come on board and stop the old ship. Later, back in Greenwich, there are a lot of questions to answer. Who lifted the ship’s anchor?Who was standing at the ship’s wheel? Why were the boys taking the captain’s map and the telescope? Paul and Jason try to explain, but it’s not easy. “It was the ticket collector … ,” they start to say. “You mean the nice old man with the eye patch and the funny old clothes?” says Mrs Sanderson. “Yes, he’s a real captain! He’s Captain Moodie … . You can ask him yourselves!” “Old Mr Dudley?” says the guide. “That’s silly!” “Where is this ticket collector?” the policeman asks. “He always goes home for lunch,” says the guide. “We think he lifted the anchor!” the boys explain. “He wanted to take the ship to China!” “I don’t understand,” says the policeman. “Who is this Captain Moodie?” “I’m sorry,” the guide says. “Captain Moodie was the ship’s captain a very long time ago. In 1870!” “He still is the captain,” the boys say. “A Ghost Captain!” 225 230 235 240 245 250 255 260 265 270 275 280 E A story Nur zu Prüfzwecken – Eigentum des Verlags öbv
