c 3 A song: We wish you a Merry Christmas (trad.) Christmas Eve (24th December): Young children put stockings under the chimney or on their beds. Their parents tell them that in the night Father Christmas comes down the chimney and puts small presents into the stockings. Children often leave a glass of milk for Father Christmas and a carrot for Rudolph, Father Christmas’s reindeer next to the chimney. Christmas Day (25th December): In the morning the children’s stockings are full of small toys, sweets and fruit. All of the family open their other presents under the Christmas tree. Christmas dinner is always on 25th December, usually at lunchtime. Some families pull crackers and wear paper hats. For Christmas dinner there is usually a turkey and Christmas pudding. Other British Christmas traditions: People in Britain write lots of Christmas cards. They often put them on the wall in the living room. Sometimes people go carol-singing. They visit friends and neighbours and sing Christmas songs. People give themmoney for charity. p 4 Your special days a) Which special days do you know?
