40 for ty “Steeeeeve! Telephone!” called Kerry, Steve’s little sister. “It’s a giiiiirl!” Steve went to the phone. “Hi, Steve. It’s Tiffany. I just wanted to tell you what color my dress is.” “Your dress?” “Yeah, for the dance on Saturday. It’s red-orange. What are you wearing?” “Um, um… do you need to know?” “No, silly. Bye, Steve!” “Yeah, see you, Tiffany.” Steve went into his bedroom and looked at himself in the mirror. “Hey, you are one lucky guy. Brittany and Tiffany are crazy about you. Cody will never call you a geek again. They may even elect you to Student Council!” The next day in 1st period before the Pledge of Allegiance, Steve was bragging to the guys. “So, do you think I can take them both? One on each arm?” he joked, but he could really imagine it. Having two dates was just awesome. At lunch he could see that people were whispering about him when he walked past. He liked being the subject of gossip – like the popular kids. But after lunch, Steve felt that kids were laughing at him. How could that be? Laughing at the guy with two dates? After 6th period, Steve saw Brittany. “Hey, Brittany. You ought to tell me the color of your dress.” She looked at Steve a little strangely before she told him. “I like yellow, too,” said Steve. “It’ll look good on you.” Brittany waited for what seemed like forever before she replied, “Um, yeah. I hope Scott likes it, too.” Steve was at his locker when he saw Tiffany. “Steve,” she said in a quiet voice. “Are you already going to the dance with Brittany? I can’t believe she would do this to me. She knew I was sending you the pencil! And I can’t believe you would do this to me! Well, I’ve got some news for you, cool guy!
