for ty-seven 47 2 Preparing the presentation a) Make a plan for your presentation on paper first. Think about these questions. How long do you want to speak? Which pictures and information do you need? What is the best order for the parts of your presentation? b) Make five or six computer slides for your presentation. Use the tips in the skills box. Keep the slides simple and don’t put too much information on each one. The slides can have pictures, animation, and even sound or video clips. But remember: the slides are only a part of the presentation. What you say and how you say it is very important, too! PRESENTAT ION SKI LLS c) Make a handout for your audience. It should have the important information and pictures from the slides. It could also have a list of the new words in your presentation. 3 The presentation Talking to an audience 1. Don’t hide! Stand close (but not too close!) to the audience. 2. Don’t stand in front of the screen! 3. Check that everybody has understood before you go to the next slide. 4. Look at the audience and be friendly. 5. Don’t talk too fast. It’s a presentation, not a race! 6. If there is a problem with the slides, keep cool. The audience will understand! 7. What mistake is he making in each picture? b) Now present what you have found out about your American city to the class. Good luck! c) After the presentation, talk about it with the audience. What did they find most interesting? What went well? How can you make your next presentation better? Listen carefully while other people do their presentations. They can give you ideas. Watching others can also help you not to make the same mistakes.
