Jake Barnes (Dirk Benedict) moves to Alaska from Chicago with his teenage children, Jessie and Sean, to find happiness after his wife dies. He starts an air transport service, but one night his plane crashes far from home in bad weather, so the kids begin a journey full of danger to rescue him. On the way they become friends with a lonely young polar bear, Cubby. The heartless poacher, Perry (Charlton Heston), who has killed the bear’s mother, follows the group. Some of the views of Alaska are awesome. But the story is predictable and the screenplay is so weak that the actors are not able to do much with their roles. However, there are some exciting action scenes near the end, and it really is a movie that adults and children can watch and enjoy – in parts – together. b) Find these words in the text and think: what could they mean?
