They directed very short movies. One of them was called A train arriving at a station (1895), and that was all that happened. The train seemed to come towards the audience. It was as if a real train was coming. The movie was so real that people screamed the first time it was shown. The first science fiction movie, A trip to the moon (1902), was made in France, too. It was directed by Georges Méliès. Trick photography was used to show a rocket that was moving through ‘space’. The Oscars started in 1929. The best movies of the year were given a prize. Later awards were also introduced for the movies with the best screenplay, music, and even costume and make-up. Tron , 1982 Gone with the wind , a great Hollywood love story, was made in 1939. It was the first long movie that was shot all in color. The first movies had been made in black and white. Since Tron (1982), computer graphics have been used a lot in Hollywood. They make it easier and cheaper to show battle scenes in space, for example. In some movies, the computer graphics and special effects are as important as the characters and the story. By 2000, more movies were being made in India than in Hollywood. ‘Bollywood’ movies (the name is a compound of Bombay, the Indian city Mumbai’s old name, and Hollywood) are romances with singing and dancing. The boy and the girl usually live happily ever after. ➝ WB63, 1 c -i Language 1 alkwise Text W rdwise Check-out Nur zu Prüfzwecken – Eigentum des Verlags öbv
