This will help you to remember the most important parts of what you have read. With a short text, write down the 3 – 4 most important points. You needn’t write full sentences, but you must write so that you will be able to understand the notes later! READING SKI LLS a) Read Text A on page 99. b) Look at these notes a student made about Spanish in California. Are any of the points in the notes not important? What important information isn’t in the notes? 2 Clusters Clusters are another way of taking notes. You can make a cluster about an idea, a person or a thing in the text. Clusters are like small mappings. The subject of the cluster goes in the middle. STUDY SKI LLS a) Look at this cluster about Oscar Negrete. What other information could you add? b) Compare your cluster with a partner’s. Do you have the same information? 3 Your turn: A one minute talk a) Read Text B on page 99. Take notes about Hollywood at the different times (17th century, the years after that, …) that are mentioned in the text. b) Make a cluster about one of the people in the text. c) Use your notes or your cluster to give a one minute talk to your partner about one of the times or one of the people. Your talk Remember to talk clearly and not too fast. Three or four points are enough for one minute! Your partner’s talk Remember to listen carefully to the talk and to give your partner tips at the end of the talk. Do you have any questions?
