Language booster 8 Make and do can have very similar meanings and it is often difficult to choose which one to use. It’s a good idea to have a “ make and do page ” in your notebook and write down new expressions whenever you find them. a soap opera • business • good • a mistake • your best • friends • homework • a phone call • a promise • something (funny/stupid/etc.) • (a lot of) money • the cooking • Separate these words into two groups according to whether they take • make ( m ) or do ( d ). Change these sentences to use the expressions in brackets with make or do. • Example: The TV company decided to cancel the soap opera. ( a decision) The TV company made a decision to cancel the soap opera. 1 They offered the actor so much money to star in the soap opera that he couldn’t say “no”.
