Make Your Way 6, Schulbuch mit Audio-CD und CD-ROM
Internet project I Read these extracts from Jackie’s diary. Which of the cities on the map was she in when she wrote each one? See if you can find a picture of each city. 6 1 Well, I know it’s the middle of summer and we’re in the middle of the desert, but we went to check out the Arizona Snowbowl. We took the “scenic skyride” (a sort of ski li ) up to the top and we had the most amazing views of the mountains, although it was really quite cold. e sunset was amazing! __________________________________ 2 We went to see the Oral Roberts University campus. What a weird place! It looks more like Disneyland than a university. It was built in 1987 by this man called Oral Roberts, who got the $4.5 million to build it through a TV appeal. He said God was going to “call him home” unless he got the money. ere’s a 10-metre-high statue of a pair of praying hands at the entrance – very strange! __________________________________ 3 Everything here is about Abraham Lincoln. ere’s Abraham Lincoln’s house, Abraham Lincoln’s law o ces and Abraham Lincoln’s grave. Liam was a bit disappointed. I think he thought we were going to meet Marge, Homer, Bart, Lisa, and Maggie! __________________________________ 4 I like this place. It’s not very touristy, but it’s got a nice feel to it. I read in the guide that it has a good mix of native, Spanish and Anglo-Americans. e people are so friendly. Central Avenue is really cool. It’s a 20-mile stretch of road dedicated to Route 66. It’s got all this 1940s architecture and loads of neon lights. It’s just how I imagined Route 66 must have been like. __________________________________ 5 I know that this is a trendy place, and it is really picturesque, but I don’t really like it here. ere are too many tourists. ey’re everywhere. It’s full of extremely expensive art galleries and chic restaurants. In fact, everything here is expensive. I don’t think we’re going to stay too long. __________________________________ 6 We had to visit the bomb memorial. It’s a very peaceful place. ere are 168 empty bronze chairs – one for each of the victims. ere’s also a tree that survived the blast somehow. It’s a really powerful reminder of the violent side of American fanaticism. __________________________________ 106 Nur zu Prüfzwecken – Eigentum des Verlags öbv
