Becoming familiar with … Here are some suggestions for making a presentation, but not all of them are good. Read through the list and grade them as follows: 1 = very good suggestion, 2 = this might help, 3 = this won’t help at all Then talk in class about what makes a good presentation. 1 Now look at 2 and compare your ideas with a partner. 1 Always have something in your presentation for people to look at. 2 Make sure that there are surprise elements in your presentation. 3 Keep eye contact with your audience. 4 Use notes for your presentation on a series of index cards. 5 Try to involve your audience as much as possible. 6 Concentrate on your notes and not on the audience. 7 React to your audience immediately. 8 Write a script for yourself so that you don’t forget anything. 9 Smile at your audience once in a while. 10 Move around a lot to make your presentation more dynamic. 11 Avoid long pauses. 12 When doing a joint presentation (with a partner), work out in advance who says what when. 13 Use pictures and diagrams so that people can understand better. 14 Don’t practise too much. Be spontaneous. 15 Read from a script so you won’t make mistakes in the language. 16 Only accept questions from the audience after your presentation. 17 Keep to the golden rule: tell them what you are going to tell them, tell them, then tell them what you’ve told them. 18 Structure your talk as much as possible. 19 Get your audience’s attention by giving out handouts at the beginning of the presentation. 20 Always check before your presentation that the equipment is available and that it works. 130 1 Nur zu Prüfzwecken – Eigentum des Verlags öbv
