Grammar station II: Relative clauses 26 Match the sentence halves and put in a comma where necessary. 27 Combine the two sentences into one. Example: I sometimes forget to read with my glasses on. This is very bad for my eyes.   I sometimes forget to read with my glasses on, which is very bad for my eyes. 28 Relative clauses can sometimes refer to the whole sentence before them. Compare: I’m not buying paper which is expensive to make. I’m not buying paper, which saves me a lot of money. In the first sentence the relative refers to the paper – i.e. paper is expensive to make. In the second sentence the relative refers back to the whole sentence before it – i.e. the fact that I’m not buying paper means I’m saving money. When which is used like this, it must always be proceeded by a comma . Further examples: People have strong connections with paper printed books for sentimentality reasons, which is something I find quite strange.
