Learning strategies: Writing a summary When you are asked to summarise a text, you need to first ask yourself what the text is about. A good way of doing this is to write a summary of the whole text in one sentence. 30 Which of these sentences best summarises the text in 29? 1 Stephen King is more popular than John Grisham. 2 The story of Stephen King’s e-book illustrates American’s attitudes to new technology. 3 The future of the book is on the internet. Then write one or two sentences to summarise each paragraph. To do this read the paragraph carefully and identify the key points. Write them down in note form.
