Men are from Mars ... Read this extract from “Men Are from Mars, Women Are from Venus” by John Gray. Choose the sentence which best explains what the book is about. The book is about: a the different origins of men and women b accepting that there are fundamental differences between the sexes and learning to live with them c how to change men and women’s behaviour so that they can be normal 21 Talk about the topic. There’s an old feminist slogan which goes “The best man for the job is a woman”. Work with a member of the opposite sex and decide whether a man or a woman would • usually be the best “man” for each of these jobs. 22 Although almost everyone would agree that men and women are different, how different is still undefined by most people. Many books have been written in the last ten years which have attempted to define these differences, usually showing one of the sexes as the victim. “Men are from Mars, Women are from Venus” is a defini- tive guide for understanding how healthy men and women are different. It reveals how men and women differ in all Men Are from Mars, Women Are from Venus aspects of their lives. Not only do they communicate differently, but they think, feel, perceive, react, respond, love, need and appreciate differently. They almost seem to be from different planets, speaking different languages and needing different nourishment. When you remember that the opposite sex is as different from you as someone from another planet, you can relax and cooperate with the differences instead of trying to change them. Think of four other jobs and discuss how men and women would do them differently. • man woman You want to buy your teacher a “thank you” present.
