Thankfully Len Fisher’s book isn’t one of these. In fact it’s just about the best non fiction book I’ve read for years. It’s wellwritten, informative, interesting and entertaining. I’ve read it over and over . What more could you ask for from a book? Science for beginners , March 23rd Reviewer: Henry from the UK This book is a short and sweet explanation of several of the scientific processes that lie beneath everyday actions such as boiling an egg, calculating a shopping bill and, as the title suggests, dunking a doughnut. It’s ‘science for beginners’ and doesn’t really explore the ins and outs of these processes. If you’re looking for complete explanations, you’ll probably be a little disappointed. However, it’s nicely written and Fisher’s sense of humour ensures you’ll never get bored. New life for science , June 3rd Reviewer: Dan from the US Scientists who can write with such enthusiasm about their subject are few and far between . Len Fisher is one of the few. This is not just a series of facts and boring scientific equations, but lots of interesting accounts of the author’s experiments (often very hit and miss !) into the science of everyday life. As a student, I found this book very useful. It has helped bring science alive for me. I still don’t understand , February 23rd Reviewer: Sara from the UK By and large I’m not really very interested in science. However, this book, with its promises of explaining how to cook the perfect Sunday lunch, intrigued me. I’ve always cooked mine by trial and error and usually got it wrong. I thought it might be time to introduce some scientific precision into my life. Well, I tried to understand what Len Fischer was trying to explain, but sadly I’ve come to realise that science and me just don’t mix. Even though this book has been ‘dressed up’ to make science seem cool, it’s still full of confusing theories and equations. I just don’t get it. 196 Nur zu Prüfzwecken – Eigentum des Verlags öbv
