So it’s not surprising that daydreams are some of the best dreams you have. And why do you have them? To escape from what’s going on around you! It could be during a long boring car trip when there’s not much to see and you’re tired of counting license plates from different states. It could be at school when the class seems to be going on for ten times longer than usual. It could be when you just don’t want to think about tomorrow. In other words, you have daydreams when you want to think about something more interesting or more fun than whatever it is you’re supposed to be thinking about. Grown-ups are not too sure they like daydreams – at least, not when kids have them. They say things like “Why are you wasting your time daydreaming?” and “Stop daydreaming and eat your string beans!” The funny thing is, when grown-ups have daydreams (which they do just as much as you do), they call it thinking or using their imagination. And they’re right. When artists and writers and inventors have daydreams, the results can be wonderful pictures or ideas for books or new gadgets. Daydreams are short holidays from real life.
