Match the information with the novels. 21 1/10 Douglas Coupland was born on 30 December 1961 on a Canadian military base in Germany. When he was four, his family returned to Vancouver. After graduating from Emily Carr College of Art and Design in Vancouver in 1984, he spent several years travelling in Italy and Japan, where he studied fine art and industrial design. Coupland is an excellent observer of modern life and his first novel “Generation X” (1991) was a sharp and humorous observation of 20-somethings living at the end of the 1980s. The book was a huge success, and although he has always denied being a spokesman for his generation, the novel certainly rang true for many young people at the time. Since “Generation X” Coupland has published 13 novels, the most recent being “Player One”, released in the autumn of 2010, as well as a number of screenplays and non-fiction books such as “Lara’s Book: Lara Croft and the Tomb Raider Phenomenon” in 1998. He has been translated into 24 languages and published in 35 countries. As well as having a career as a successful author, Coupland is also a renowned artist and designer. He held the first exhibition of his sculpture “The Floating World” in a Vancouver gallery in 1987. He has designed adverts for Smirnoff vodka and has launched his own line of furniture and a clothing collection.
