Write one or two more sentences based on the maps, like those in 2a. Read out your sentences to a partner. Does he / she agree? Look at the maps again. 1 Imagine a map showing population in 2050. How would it be different? What countries might be bigger or smaller? 2 Imagine a map showing wealth in the year 1500. How would it look? Are any the same as your ideas? The speakers used various expressions to talk about what the map means. What did they say? Complete the sentences with expressions from the box.
