MalalaYousafzai was born in 1997 in the Swat region of Pakistan. She became famous because she dared to campaign for the education of girls and for women’s rights in the Swat Valley, where girls were partly banned from going to school. She started a blog on the internet to document the situation of girls in Northern Pakistan. Through this blog she became a celebrity and the Western media started reporting on her activities.
