Prime Time 1, Coursebook

Lights on. Everyone comes around the King to see if he is cured. Rory looks very worried. A pause. King: (smiles) I think … I think … yes, it worked! I’m cured! But then the King gives a very loud hiccup. Repeat The ROUTINE . King: (very, very angry) Guards, take them all back to prison! Lucy: Wait, please, we have one final cure, Sir! King: A third cure!? Sam, Rory, Jemma: But Lucy, what are you doing? We don’t have another cure! Lucy: It’s just an idea, guys. Trust me! King: If this doesn’t work, … I’ll … I’ll … He makes angry gestures and puts a finger across his throat. Lucy: But, Sir, if my cure works, you must free us all from prison. The Witch and the Wizard too. Agreed? King: If it works (sad) . But nothing works! Lucy picks one of the King’s jub-jub fruit from the table. Everyone says “OH!” She throws it to Pembridge. Then she throws more fruit to the Guards, the Queen, the villagers, the Children and Kip until everyone has a jub-jub fruit. Only the King does not have one. Lucy: Now eat, everyone! Everyone is too afraid to eat. Lucy: Remember, it tastes of popcorn and marshmallow … ice cream and a little bit like peanut butter, all together. Rory takes a big bite of his fruit. Then everyone eats the fruit. King: (to Lucy) If this cure doesn’t work, my girl, … I’ll … I’ll … He makes angry gestures and puts a finger across his throat. Villagers: Popcorn, mmm! The Guards: I’m getting … ice cream, mmm! The Children and Kip: I’m getting marshmallow, mmm! Queen: Definitely peanut butter, mmm! Pembridge: Definitely peanut butter, mmm! Suddenly, Rory hiccups very loud. Everyone is very surprised and says “OH!” But the King laughs at Rory’s hiccup, and everybody laughs. Then the Chief of the Guards hiccups, then Pembridge, then the Queen. Soon everyone is hiccupping but not the King. He is laughing and laughing at them, and now they’re all laughing too. Lucy picks up a turnip from the table. She throws it to the King. Lucy: Here, King Grumpy, eat this! Everyone is horrified. They stop eating and laughing. Lucy: Go on, King Grumpy, it’s part of the cure! The King is not sure. He looks at Pembridge and the Chief Guard and the Queen in turn. They are not sure if they should say ‘yes’ this time. The King very slowly takes a bite of the turnip. He makes a terrible face as he eats it. While the King eats, all the others clap together and say: “Eat it up, eat it up!” Everyone comes around the King to see if he is cured. Lucy looks very worried. A long pause. King: (smiles) I, I think … I think … yes, this time I’m cured!! 3.22 101 12 one hundred and one Nur zu Prüfzwecken – Eigentu des Verlags öbv
