What is the blogger’s main message? READING 27 Mel_23 4 December, 7:52 p.m. Use your right to peaceful protest, creatively! I’m really into art, and I like to stand up for what I know is right. If this combination appeals to you too, then think about how to use it for good. I reckon that art has always played a crucial role in dealing with social, cultural and political injustice. It’s risky, it’s brave, and it leaves an impact. I’m not just talking about novels that call for change, but think of all those songs, paintings, posters, graffiti, etc. that shout ‘Freedom!’, ‘Equality!’, ‘Fairness!’ … Can’t we add our voices to help right the world’s wrongs too? Creative protest is basic to a free society; it’s part of our human rights. Lots of history’s most popular campaigns for change and social progress used creativity to show their refusal to accept blind authority. Art unifies us in our common humanity, in the face of corruption and abuses of power – which still take place way too often! We should be drawing, painting, singing, rapping for people’s rights. You and I know that, even today, protesters are all too often censored, arrested, even killed for standing up for what they believe in. But throughout history, protest art has been created by brave people who demand change, with passion and creativity. They show the creative best of humanity in a world where human rights are constantly challenged. So, take a look at my gallery of ‘protest art’ and tell me what you think!
