2 Essay: Structure and paragraphs   WG 3 When you write an essay it is important that you discuss a topic in detail and in a clearly structured way. These steps can help you to write such an essay: • Collect ideas and think carefully about your topic and about the various arguments you are planning to use. • Divide your text into individual paragraphs, which focus on one aspect each. • Find a conclusion that reflects your line of argument. Paragraph analysis Read the following paragraph (sentences 1–4) and write down the sentence type: • topic sentence (outlines the topic of the paragraph) • supporting sentences (provide examples and further explanations) • conclusive sentence (sums up the argument at the end) Sentence type 1.
