Of all the science museums I’ve ever been to, I think London’s is probably the best. Of course, it helps that it’s free! You have to pay for the special exhibitions – and they are worth the extra – but all the permanent exhibitions are absolutely free. Why aren’t all museums like this? You could spend weeks visiting the Science Museum and still not see everything. The historical artefacts, from the models of the lunar lander to the first steam trains, are superb. But despite this, it isn’t the collections that will stick in your mind – it’s the hands-on1 experience you will remember. There are so many opportunities to get involved and get your hands dirty! The activities and shows are enough to keep kids of all ages happy and engaged, and adults will be fascinated too. I think the most memorable thing was the Wonderlab, which was a huge space with about 50 interactive science experiments. It was noisy and full of sparks2, smoke and explosions. Absolutely wonderful! And the best thing is, if you ever get bored of the Science Museum (and that would be very difficult), the Natural History Museum is just across the road.
