How to write a blog post and a blog comment A blog is a dynamic and interactive medium with the latest entry on a specific topic usually appearing at the top of the page. A blog post (also called blog entry) often aims to inform, open discussions or share opinions, emotions and experiences; they may also document the blogger’s life and activities. In business, blogs can be used to promote services and products. Structure A blog post has an introduction, body and ending but without headings. Use paragraphs to make your blog post easy to read. Give your user name, then start your post with a catchy title, give advice that is easy to consume, and motivate your readers to comment on your post at the end. Language Blog posts are usually written in informal or colloquial style; you can use direct questions at the end to make your audience react to your post. Blog comment: Readers of blogs may react to entries and communicate with the author. The comment is attached to the relevant entry. When you write a blog comment, pay attention to what has been said in the blog post you are responding to: refer to facts or opinions and react to them, then support your point of view with relevant data. Structure Use a separate paragraph for each idea; no headings. Give a user name and email address. Language Blogs are usually written in informal or colloquial style; be sure to consider the register used in the blog post you are reacting to, and use the same level of formal or informal language in your comment. TIP: Find out the purpose of the blog post before you write a blog comment. Is it informative or persuasive or does it share an experience? What do you want to achieve with your comment? 178 W Writing guide Nur zu Prüfzwecken – Eigentum des Verlags öbv
