182 WRITING COACH Rashid_M Sports? No, thanks! Sports and I have never got along. There’s always someone preaching about how doing sports is healthy, reduces stress and boosts self- esteem. Rubbish! Look at me: I don’t run, cycle or swim, I avoid the gym, and I’m perfectly healthy, thank you very much! reply Blog comment – sample task Browsing blogs on leisure activities, you have come across the blog post on the right. People always say that exercise is the key to staying healthy, but what really matters is enjoying life and doing what makes you happy. Sure, eating a balanced diet and being reasonably active are good things, but let’s not forget that sports can actually be harmful, too. Lots of people get injured by falling or bumping into another player in team sports, and in extreme cases, pushing yourself too hard can even lead to a heart attack. You often hear that working out relieves stress and helps you unwind, but personally, I think it does the opposite. Take people who are really into exercise and maybe even play a sport competitively. Their day often starts ridiculously early with training before school. Then they sit through classes all day, rush home to finish homework, and head straight back to evening practice. That’s a lot! Also, there’s so much pressure on athletes to perform and keep winning. If you ask me, all of that sounds exhausting, not relaxing! And then there’s the argument that exercise is good for your self-confidence. Really? No one wins all the time, and losing must feel awful. Plus, when you’re constantly competing, you’re also constantly comparing yourself to others and wondering if they’re better than you. Honestly, how is that supposed to make anyone feel better about themselves? So, as you can see, we’re completely on the same page when it comes to sports. Thanks for such a fantastic blog post!
